Koel of Sindh, singer Rubina Qureshi dies aged 81
The Koel of Sindh, singer Rubina Qureshi died today (July 13) at the age of 81. She had been suffering from cancer for the past two years.
Rubina gained fame for her Sindhi songs in the 1960s on Radio Pakistan.
She had been undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital for the past two years but could not recover from the disease.
According to family sources, Rubina was in a coma for the past two months.
She leaves behind her husband, film star Mustafa Qureshi, her son film actor Aamir Qureshi and a daughter.
She was laid to rest in the compound of Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s tomb after Asr prayers today.
Rubina was given the Presidential Pride of Performance but she did not feel well enough to go to the Governor’s House to collect her award on March 23.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed grief over the demise of Rubina Qureshi.
Rubina Qureshi was one of the pioneers of Sindhi music in the country, Shah said about the singer while praying for the departed soul.
