While announcing the government’s decision to form a commission to investigate the current energy crisis, former prime minister and PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Thursday that Imran Khan and his cabinet destroyed the energy sector during their four years in power.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad along with Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Abbasi said that a commission would be formed to determine the causes of the energy crisis. “The report of the commission will be made public.”

He said cabinet will approve the formation of the commission, which would then unmask the corruption and negligence that led to the energy crisis.

The former prime minister further said that those responsible for the power crisis and rampant inflation will become apparent once the commission completes its investigation.

Speaking alongside Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan was going through the worst energy crisis. “One of the reasons for this is that we failed to make deals for LNG and fuel.”

He also said that Imran was dismantling Pakistan’s economy. “If Imran had not been removed, Pakistan would have surely defaulted within six months.”
