ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday set aside the court’s earlier order of April 15 regarding giving a verdict Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ‘prohibited’ funding case in one month.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has partially allowed the PTI’s intra-court appeal and quashed the decision of the single bench to the extent of giving a decision within one month.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah headed the two-member bench that include Justice Babar Sattar that set aside the court’s earlier order. It also hoped that the electoral watchdog would decide the case against other political parties in an appropriate timeframe and in a transparent manner.

In the earlier ruling, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani had dismissed PTI’s petition seeking to keep the party’s alleged foreign funding confidential. He had also rejected the PTI’s request to prevent access to the case’s record to PTI founding member Akbar S Babar and a request to remove him from the case proceedings.

The party filed two separate petitions - on January 25 and 31 - regarding the two issues. They were subsequently rejected by the ECP on March 15. Following the rejection of their plea, the PTI filed a petition challenging the ECP’s decision to dismiss the pleas.

Afrer that, the PTI filed an intra-court appeal in April challenging the IHC’s decision.

Last week, the IHC had issued notices to the ECP and other parties named in the intra-court appeal of the PTI against the electoral body’s decision to conclude the foreign funding case before deciding other cases.

Meanwhile, the ECP on Wednesday directed its staff not to list the case against PTI as foreign funding in future after PTI’s stance was accepted that the matter was about ‘prohibited funding’.
