ISLAMABAD: The federal government would host business experts on Tuesday (today) in the capital for a national dialogue on the charter of economy, with stakeholders together at the invitation of the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ahead of the June 10 budget.

“I will address pre-budget seminar tomorrow that brings various stakeholders together to discuss challenges & opportunities our economy presents,” PM Shehbaz said in a tweet on Monday.

Premier Shehbaz had earlier mentioned such a dialogue in order to boost the economy and find new avenues for economic development. The PM will address the conference, which is aimed at providing a platform for agriculturists, IT experts and businessmen to share and exchange their proposals with the incumbent government on IT, agriculture and business, textile and exports.

“We aim to refine ideas for an integrated national strategy that encompasses business, IT, and agriculture with a focus on enhancing exports,” the premier said.

The moot comes at a time when Pakistan is going through a number of macroeconomic imbalances such as rising inflation, twin deficit, depleting foreign exchange reserves, unstable exchange rate, and low tax-to-GDP ratio. The prevailing global economic outlook with rising fuel and commodity prices is adding fuel to fire for the domestic economy.

A portal has also been developed for inviting proposals and recommendations.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Tuesday morning took to Twitter to share the development. “PM Shehbaz will start the national dialogue for the charter of the economy where businessmen from agriculture, food security, energy, IT, textile, manufacturing, exports and other sectors will participate,” she said in a series of tweets.

The premier would also seek proposals for the budget for the financial year 2022-23 from business gurus and take them into confidence over the incumbent government’s next step. “PM Shahbaz’s vision is to create a Pakistan where the economy thrives on a prosperous, stable and sustainable basis,” she said.
