Indian singer and Congress politician Sidhu Moosewalla was killed in a Mansa district’s village on Sunday when unidentified persons opened fire at him while he was travelling with a friend in the car.

The incident took place after the police withdrew the security of as many as 424 people, which included the singer, according to NDTV. The police have claimed that the shooting seemed to be an incident of a gang war.

“Lawrence Bishnoi gang is involved in this murder. Lucky, member of the gang has taken responsibility from Canada,” Punjab DGP VK Bhawra told reporters. They have also formed a special investigation team to probe the incident.

Reacting to the incident, the Indian film fraternity started sending condolence messages to the family of Moosewalla.

“Very shocking n very sad, a great artist n a wonderful human being, may god give the strengths to his family,” Indian comedian and actor Kapil Sharma said in a tweet.

The Congress party also grieved over the incident and described it as a “terrible shock”.
