Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will meet coalition party leaders today. Separate meetings are scheduled with PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari, JUI-F’s Fazlur Rehman and MQM-P’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. The economic situation and plans for the next general elections are expected to be on the agenda. Petroleum prices may also be discussed.

The National Assembly will have a session today, with the 28-point agenda expected to continue. There will be a special focus on load shedding. The agenda will also include standing committee ordinances, bills and reports.

Heat continues to beat down on the country and is made considerably worse due to the consistent load shedding. Some parts of the country experience at least 16 hours of load-shedding. At least eight to 10 hours of load-shedding continues in Karachi.

More cases of covid-19 coming forward, with 102 new cases reported during the last 24 hours. Covid positivity rate in the country rises to 0.68%.

The government will launch an anti-polio drive from May 23 to 29, Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel said, adding that all possible steps would be taken to eradicate polio.
