Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across the country with religious zeal and fervour on Tuesday (today), marking the end of holy month of Ramazan.

After a gap of two years, Eid is being celebrated without Covid-19 restrictions.

Small and big congregations were held in major cities of the country, including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta, as well as in small cities, reported Aaj News. Special prayers were held for safety, security and progress of the country.

Strict measures of security were observed during the prayers to prevent any untoward incident.

In the federal capital, the main eid congregation was held at the Faisal Mosque where President Dr Arif Alvi and high officials and envoys of Muslim countries offered prayers, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz offered their prayers at Jati Umrah mosque in Lahore.

PM Shehbaz greeted Pakistanis and all Muslims on the occasion and tweeted Eid is a special festival of unparalleled unity. “Today is the day to embrace each other and smile together.”

The president extended Eid greeting and tweeted: “Ramzan is the month of spiritual and moral training for Muslims and it provides an opportunity to inculcate high human qualities and spiritual purity.” However, Eid is a day for celebration, he said. “I pray for the prosperity of the country.”

Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and some parts of Balochistan on Monday as Peshawar zonal committee had announced 130 sightings of Shawwal’s moon in various parts of the province.
