An explosion at a mosque in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif on Thursday left at least 5 people dead and 65 others injured.

"A blast happened in the 2nd district inside a mosque that left more than 20 killed and injured," Mohammad Asif Wazeri, the spokesman for the Taliban commander in Mazar-e-Sharif told Reuters.

Meanwhile, in a separate blast in Kunduz, another eleven people were killed or wounded, a health official said on Thursday.

Najeebullah Sahel, from the provincial health authority, said hospitals had received the casualties from a blast and that the numbers could increase, but did not elaborate on the location or cause of the explosion.
