PML-N leader rebuffs rumours of ban on media coverage of PTI rallies

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday called for dissolving the National Accountability Bureau and holding the anti-graft body’s employees accountable for allegedly looting and treating people with cruelty.

“NAB Chairman [Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal] should inform the people how many politicians were held during his tenure as compared to the last 23 years. What has been recovered and who has been declared guilty,” he said to reporters in Islamabad.

Abbasi alleged that the NAB chairperson was under the complete control of former premier Imran Khan. He further accused the national graft buster’s chief of being quiet about the last government’s apparent corruption.

“Not a single inquiry, investigation or reference was filed against anyone… whereas looters of billions of rupees were part of the federal cabinet,” he said and expressed hope for the accountability of NAB.

Abbasi reiterated his party president, Shehbaz Sharif's declaration of not taking “revenge” against anyone. But, he added that the sitting government would reveal the “truth about NAB’s working”.

The PML-N leader was of the view that the accountability process was not difficult, however, NAB was present if someone wanted to “politically victimise” someone.

To a query, Abbasi said the incumbent government would complete its tenure and PTI chief Imran Khan would continue to take the streets.

Former PM Imran in a tweet on Monday announced his decision to stage a power show in Peshawar on Wednesday (tomorrow) and called early elections, which according to him is the only way forward.

The PML-N claimed that the government would not opt for political victimisation as they have always pursued politics of “respect, simplicity, and dignity”. He further accused the former government minister of falsely charging party leader Rana Sanaullah in a drug case.

He also took a jibe at President Arif Alvi’s “sick leave” and wondered whether the latter ever used “any brush or not” for toothache. Moreover, he rebuffed rumours of a ban on coverage of PTI rallies.
