ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the opposition will not back down in the face of delaying tactics by the government while asserting that it will "snatch" its constitutional right from the government.

Addressing the floor of the lower house during the Supreme Court-ordered session of the National Assembly for voting on the no-confidence motion, the PPP chief said that Imran Khan's actions were tantamount to derailing democracy in the country in an effort to delay the voting on the no-trust vote as ordered by the Supreme Court.

"If you want to discuss the international cosnpiracy, we can do it for the next 100 days but we will make sure that we utilize our constitutional right," he said.

He added that the NA speaker and treasury benches were in violation of the top court's order of April 7 to hold the voting on the no-confidence motion in Saturday's session.

He claimed that those who were advising the prime minister on delaying the no-trust vote were only thinking about themselves. "They will land him in trouble," while calling out the premier on being absent during today's session.

Bilawal also fired a broadside at the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, asking why he wasn't present during the National Security Committee meeting in which the contents of the "threat letter" were shared. He also questioned why the statement issued after the meeting did not mention the no-trust motion. "It just included a decision to issue a demarche."

Bilawal urged the speaker to pay heed to the court's order and start voting on the motion of no confidence.

"Today is the seventh day of the NA session and the last day to hold voting," he added.

He added that PM Imran had been selected earlier and was waiting for his backers to come to his aid again in an apparent reference to Imran Khan's alleged supporters from within some sections of the intelligence service.

"No matter how much you try, you cannot be like '[Zulfikar Ali] Bhutto," he said, adding that Imran's attempt to become a political martyr will not succeed.

He also accused Imran Khan of hypocrisy, saying that when lawmakers become "electables" when siding with PTI but are labelled "turncoats" (lotas) when they want to support the opposition against the PTI.
