Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid on Friday called for giving “en masse resignations” from the National Assembly and taking to the streets against the united opposition in order to reveal their “true identities” to the nation.

“These [united opposition leaders] are ‘hired guns’ and they are part of the foreign conspiracy that will devour the independent foreign policy of this country,” he told reporters in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on March 27 at the party’s power show in Islamabad claimed to have a piece of evidence – a letter that apparently contains threats from the United States. While they also alleged that the united opposition’s no-confidence motion was part of a foreign conspiracy.

No-trust motion bares nation’s struggle with democracy

The US has rejected the accusations a couple of times, saying that “there was no truth in such allegations”. The US administration supports rule of law, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said in the weekly press briefings.

According to Rashid, en masse resignation from the assembly was the only solution to the prevailing challenge faced by the PTI-led government in the lower house of parliament.

He claimed that the nation was aware of the alleged foreign conspiracy being hatched to oust the incumbent government.

PM to address nation today, reiterates to ‘fight till last ball’

Rashid reiterated the three options he had offered to PM Imran earlier, mainly holding early elections, dissolving assemblies, imposing an emergency and enforcing the governor’s rule.

The statement from the interior minister comes after the Supreme Court order that restored the National Assembly and declared the ruling of the National Assembly deputy speaker issued on April 3 null and void. It also declared the dissolution of the House illegal and against the Constitution.

As per the court order, the lower house of parliament would reconvene on Saturday (tomorrow) for the no-trust vote no later than 10:30am. PM Imran after the apex court had said that he would address the nation today and summoned the freshly restored cabinet meeting.

Experts have hailed the SC order but also expressed concerns over the prevailing economic situation of the country that has been affected by global oil prices, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the political situation of the country.

Rashid had warned the opposition against taking to the streets, saying that they would not be able to handle the situation if the premier took to the streets.
