Maryam perplexed by Pervez Elahi's decision to support 'defeated' Imran
PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz has questioned veteran PML-Q leader Pervez Elahi's political acumen over his decision to support Prime Minister Imran Khan in the no confidence vote, stating that it is "incomprehensible why a politically [savvy] person [Pervez Elahi] would play a losing game".
"The political future of PM Imran Khan and PTI is over but Pervez Elahi should not have become party to those crimes," tweeted Maryam in reference to PML-Q's decision to support the embattled premier on the no-trust vote in return for the slot of Punjab chief minister.
After the deal between the PTI and its flip-flopping ally PML-Q - who remained in contact with the opposition throughout the negotiations - Usman Buzdar was asked to step down as the Punjab chief minister with the expectation that Elahi would be voted in in his stead.
However, the Punjab Assembly session - scheduled on the same day as the NA session to take up the no-confidence vote against PM Imran - was adjourned and marred by ruckus amid accusations of defection against lawmakers.
The PA session is now scheduled to be held on April 16. However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has submitted a no-confidence motion against Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari in the Assembly Secretariat. Mazari is now constitutionally not allowed to summon the session of the assembly.
