Following the resignation of Usman Bazdar as Chief Minister, the proceeding of the Punjab Assembly's session to elect new chief minister has been adjourned till April 16.

According to the details, the proceeding of the provincial assembly session was postponed due to repair of damage in the House and lobby.

The Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari approved to adjourn the session until April 16.

The session, with the election of new chief minister on the agenda, was due to be held tomorrow (April 6) but now the Deputy Speaker has adjourned the session till April 16

On March 3, the proceeding of the Provincial Assembly to elect the new CM Punjab was adjourned until April 6 (Wednesday).

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and allies will be backing Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for the post while the opposition alliance’s joint candidate is PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz Sharif.

Earlier today, PTI had directed its lawmakers in Punjab Assembly to vote for Elahi for the post of Chief Minister.

PTI, in its notice, has warned that absence on voting day will also be considered violation of party discipline.

Action will be taken under Article 63 against those lawmakers who are absent or vote against party candidate, the notice stated.

Meanwhile, PML-N leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza said that he had a majority in the Provincial Assembly and the next Chief Minister would be from PML-N.

It may be recalled that Buzdar had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan on March 28 after the premier had nominated Elahi for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab.

The governor accepted Buzdar's resignation after the joint opposition filed a no-confidence motion against him.

After the acceptance of resignation, the no-confidence motion submitted against Buzdar by joint opposition in the provincial assembly became ineffective and the house was to elect a new chief minister.
