Ch Shujaat denies rumours of rift, says party decisions taken with his consent

PML-Q chief says people spreading false propaganda ‘will be disappointed’
“I was informed that there are rifts in my family. There is no depth in such baseless news. For the past 50 years, our family is not just spread in Punjab but all districts of the country,” Shujaat said. PID/File

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Tuesday dismissed rumours of rifts within the party after the government announced its decision to nominate Chaudhry Pervez Elahi for the Punjab chief minister post, adding that the party decisions were taken “with his consent”.

In a statement, shared by PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi on Twitter, the former prime minister refrained from giving explanations but stated his position that he was considered the family leader.

The official handout came after a few media channels reported that there were reports rifts among the coalition partners of the ruling party after PML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema announced his resignation from the housing and works ministry. His resignation came after Special Assistant to the PM on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill on Monday announced that the government would support PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as a chief ministerial candidate for Punjab.

The Q-league had also announced its support for the PTI in the no-confidence motion. Cheema on Sunday had sought more time from the opposition parties after they contacted him regarding the no-trust vote.

“The number of youth in the assembly is more than in the past and blaming them or doubting them is wrong,” it read, “Monetary dealings should not be mentioned, especially as educated people don't approve of it.”

The PML-Q leader added that false propaganda and distorting facts were very inappropriate.

“I was informed that there are rifts in my family. There is no truth in such baseless news. For the past 50 years, our family is not just spread in Punjab but all districts of the country,” Shujaat said.

He added that the party decisions were taken with his consent. Shujaat alleged that some people were trying to get political benefits by creating wrong propaganda pertaining to rifts. “They will be very disappointed when they will see and will be shown that they are saying the wrong thing or being told to say such things.”

The former premier added that propaganda should not be created by considering decisions on any issue.

MQM-P, PML-N sign 'written agreement'

Moreover, Aaj News while citing sources, said that the MQM-P and the PML-N have settled their matters and signed a written agreement. They added that work has begun to legalise the pact between the PPP and the MQM-P.

Sources said that the MQM-P demands pertained to census before the next elections and legal cover to strengthen the local government system.

However, the local media earlier also reported that the PTI has also "offered the ports and shipping ministry" to the MQM-P as part of its efforts to woo allies. Some have suggested that the MQM-P will also get the governor's slot in return for their support. They added that the Sindh based party has so far not given any final nod to the offer.
