Social media users are demanding justice for a Hindu teenage who was shot dead in Sindh during an alleged abduction attempt after refusing a marriage proposal, with #JusticeForPooja trending on Pakistani Twitter.

The girl, believed to be 18 years old, was reportedly shot dead by her neighbour Wahid Bux, accoridng to Sindhi publication Kaavish.

As per details, Bux wanted Pooja Kumari to convert to Islam and marry her. It was for this purpose that he entered her house in Rohri area of Sukkur.

Upon facing resistance, he opened fire killing her on the spot.

Police have arrested the suspect and claim that the accused has confessed to the murder.

The news has social media users calling for stern action with #JusticeForPooja becoming a top trend on Twitter.

“So unfortunate. Rest in peace, beautiful Pooja,” tweeted music producer Rohail Hyatt.

According to a report submitted to the UN for Pakistan's Universal Periodic Review in 2017, at least 20 Hindu girls are abducted and converted every month in Pakistan. The most vulnerable areas for forced conversions in Sindh are the Thar region, Sanghar, Ghotki and Jacobabad.

One person blamed the feudal system in Pakistan for destroying “Islamic values.”

“How many more minority incidents like these will we have to see in Pakistan?” asked a user.

Many Twitter users demanded for the government to serve justice to Kumari.

Meanwhile, last rites of the teen were performed in her ancestral village with a PTI lawmaker tweeting that the police was stopping the family from holding a protest.
