The number of coronavirus cases in the country continue their downward trend, with two deaths and 514 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, as per National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) data.

Since the start of the pandemic in the country, at least 1.52 million people have been infected by the virus.

As per the data, Sindh remains the most affected province, reporting 12,409 active cases, while Punjab reported the second highest number at 3,002. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has 1605 active cases while Islamabad has 272. Gilgit Baltistan, AJK and Balochistan reported 98, 62 and 39 active cases respectively.

The country now has a positivity rate of 1.33% and at least 546 Covid patients remain on critical care.

At least 537 people recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients to overcome it to 1,472,828.

In view of the prevailing Covid situation, NCOC chief Asad Umer on Wednesday announced the lifting of all Covid-related curbs – including those on eating places, markets, outdoor events, sports events, religious events – except mandatory vaccination. The vaccine is especially necessary for those planning to travel by air.

“We will review the policy when 80-85% people are vaccinated. But for the time being, traveling by air without being vaccinated will not be allowed,” he said.

The NCOC head further added that lifting of restrictions does not mean the pandemic was over and the government would closely monitor the virus's behaviour. He also said the forum will observe the situation before taking any further decisions.

In addition, the decision to shut the NCOC was also taken recently as Pakistan slowly returns to normalcy.
