The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) released the official trailer of its upcoming Disney+ series Ms Marvel on Tuesday, introducing its Pakistani-American teen superhero Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel.

The miniseries will premiere on Disney+ on June 8.

The trailer, which is almost two minutes long, shows 16-year-old Kamala Khan, played by actor Iman Vellani, going through the challenges of being a high school student, while rising as a superhero.

A remix of The Weekend's Blinding Lights is also a brilliant addition to the trailer, packing punches at the right time.

This is the universe's first Muslim superhero and her roots are evident in the series, as she is shown praying in congregation, while also donning a traditional shalwar kameez for many scenes.

Social media users are full of praise for the Muslim representation in the series.

“I cannot explain in words how proud Ms Marvel makes me. A Canadian-Pakistani Muslim girl as lead role in a Marvel movie,” said one user.

While most people are ecstatic about the representation of Muslim in Hollywood, this person has some reservations.

The trailer also features Pakistani actor Nimra Bucha and people are raving about it on Twitter.

Fawad Khan is also said to be in the series but no official statement has come from the actor as yet.

Sharing the trailer on her Instagram, Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, who is one of the directors of the series alongside Meera Menon, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, said, “I cannot be more prouder of the story we are telling and the message we are sending out into the world!”

“Believing that girls everywhere will see themselves in #MsMarvel Here's to creating stories that represent all shades of superheroes!” she added.
