Pakistani batter Sidra Amin makes history with century at Women's World Cup
Cricketer Sidra Amin has entered the record books by becoming the first Pakistani batter to score a century in the ICC Women's World Cup 2022 on Sunday.
Playing against Bangladesh, the Pakistani reached the milestone of her 136th delivery with the help of eight boundaries.
Before Amin’s century, the highest scores by a Pakistani women at the ICC tournament was Javeria Khan’s 90 at the 2016/17 ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Sri Lanka, and Nahida Khan’s 79 runs in 2017 in England.
Here’s Amin’s stirring century moment.
Chasing a target of 234 run against Bangladesh, Pakistan required 94 runs from the final 15 overs with Amin and Bismah Maroof in the ground. The duo were able to score 50 runs in less than 12 overs. However, Amin's departure triggered a collapse as Pakistan turned a rather comfortable situation into a catipulation to hand Bangladesh their first win at the tournament.
However, the defeat didn't take away from Amin's achievement with social media user labelling her the Babar Azam of the women’s cricket team.
The Pakistan Cricket Board also congratulated the player on her achievement.
