At least four security personnel of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) were killed after their colleague allegedly opened fire on them, various Indian media outlets reported.

According to the reports, the accused constable was also killed in the incident that took place on Sunday morning in Amritsar in India's Punjab.

The media reports said that the shooter was among those who were killed but it was not clear that he shot himself or if he was killed by others.

"In an unfortunate incident, five BSF troops were killed at a force camp in Amritsar in a fratricidal incident," Deccan Herald quoted BSF spokesperson as saying.

The spokesperson said a court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the facts. Officials did not say what was the reason or provocation that led the accused to fire at his colleagues.
