In another first, Pakistani-American named senior aide to New York City mayor
In another first, a Pakistani-American has been appointed senior adviser to the mayor of New York City for South Asian and Muslim affairs.
According to the verified account of the Pakistan Consulate General New York, Ahsan Chughtai has been tasked with advising NYC Mayor Eric Adams on issues pertaining to the South Asian and Muslim community.
According to state wire service APP, Ahsan Chughtai has been a civic and political leader for more than 20 years, helping elected officials create policies for all levels of government, founding non-profit charity organisations, working with community agencies and diverse communities in New York City, read the announcement.
The achievement was celebrated by the Consulate General of Pakistan New York on its Twitter handle.
“Proud moment as Ahsan Chughtai nominated the first-ever Pakistani American as Senior Adviser to the NYC Mayor on South Asia and Muslim Affairs," it stated.
