Famous Bollywood musician and composer Bappi Lahiri passed away in Mumbai’s CritiCare Hospital in Juhu on Tuesday. He was 69.

According to Indian news outlet, News18, Lahiri was suffering from multiple diseases. The hospital issued a statement confirming Lahiri’s death.

“He was treated by Dr Deepak Namjoshi. He was hospitalised in Criticare Hospital, Juhu for 29 days with this. He recovered well and was discharged home on 15 February. However, after a day at home, his health again deteriorated and he was brought back to Criticare hospital, Juhu in a critical state and succumbed to his illness at about 11:45 pm, Indian time. He had obstructive sleep apnea (OSD) for the last one year. He was admitted on multiple occasions to Criticare Hospital under treatment of Dr Deepak Namjoshi and recovered on all occasions,” said the statement.

Bollywood actors took to social media to express their grief over the demise of the veteran composer.

"I wish you joy wherever you go Bappi da because that's what you brought to the world through your music and your being. Love always, Bidda (as you'd so endearingly call me)," wrote actor Vidya Balan.

Ajay Devgan also joined his colleagues and paid tribute to the deceased.

Veteran actor Hema Malini said, “He will be sorely missed by the industry & by all his many fans.”

Lahiri is credited to be the pioneer of disco music in Bollywood. His signature style of wearing gold chains and sunglasses also set him apart from others in the industry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to post a condolence message for Lahiri’s family.

Lahiri is the second veteran musician India has lost this month after music legend Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6th.
