Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday said his provincial government would compensate the people affected by the November fire of Cooperative Market and Victoria Center.

He was talking to a delegation of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) led by Zubair Motiwala in Karachi.

A joint committee comprising Provincial Ministers Saeed Ghani, Jam Ikram, Chairman Planning and Development and others was constituted for verification of shops.

During the meeting the KCCI members and other affectees told the chief minister that the fire had erupted in the Cooperative Market on November 14, 2021, as a result, 398 shops, completely or partially, were reduced to ashes.

The chief minister also directed the Cooperative department to move a summary for the cabinet so that the compensation amount could be approved and then disbursed at the earliest.

On Nov 14, 2021 a fire broke out in the Saddar’s Cooperative Market that completely destroyed some 500 shops situated on the ground floor.

According to Dawn, an FIR was lodged after consistent protest from the traders backed by PTI leaders for mischief by fire or explosive substance but nothing credible was found by investigators that could strength the suspicions of sabotage behind the blaze.
