Police stopped a Japanese citizen, Tamazaki Takioya, in Orangi Town during a routine snap check, mistaking him for a Bangladeshi citizen, Ary News reported on Monday.

It was after Takioya told police that he was in fact Japanese that they sprang into action, taking him into protective custody and eventually moving him to SSP Suhai Aziz’s office.

He was then taken to the Foreign Security Cell. It was also learnt that Takioya has been exploring Sindh for the past two days and ended up in Orangi Town just to see what it is all about. He has been traveling the world and Pakistan happens to be the 104th country he has visited.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Consulate has appreciated Karachi Police’s role in keeping their citizen safe.

This is the second time that a foreign national has stumbled into dangerous areas, mistaking it for a tourist spot. In December, 2021, a Chinese national was found roaming the hills of Kati Pahari.

It was the tourist’s first day in Pakistan and according to police reports, he mistook the hilly area for a tourist spot. The police also rescued the Chinese citizen and took them out before any untoward incident could take place.
