Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has filed a defamation case against his neighbour Ketan Kakkad for posting defamatory content about him and his property in Panvel, Raigad district of Maharashtra, on social media platforms. The first hearing of the case took place on January 21st.

Kakkad owns a plot near Khan’s Panvel farmhouse and according to the lawsuit, he made slanderous comments about the star in a YouTube interview.

According to India.com, the star’s lawyer Pradeep Gandhy has been arguing his case for the last two days. Khan submitted his reply in court on Thursday asking his neighbour not to bring his religion and family in the case. “Without proper proof, all these allegations are a figment of the defendant’s imagination. In a property dispute, why are you tarnishing my personal reputation? Why are you bringing in religion? My mother is a Hindu, my father is a Muslim and my brothers have married Hindus. We celebrate all festivals,” Gandhy quoted Khan in court.

Questioning the veracity of such information on social media platforms, the actor stated that it’s become very easy to defame anyone these days. “You are an educated person… not a Gunda-chhap to make such allegations. The easiest thing nowadays is to gather some people, get on social media and vent out all your anger,” he said.

Reading out Kakkad’s comments from social media, Gandhy said in court that he has accused Khan of “burying bodies of film stars in his farmhouse,” and of being a “members of the D Gang.”

The case is originally about a land dispute. A report in India Today states that Kakkad had claimed that Khan usurped a piece of land allotted to him. In addition, he accused the Bollywood megastar illegally blocking the entry and exit to his plot by constructing a gate. Khan’s neighbour also accused him of building an eco-friendly Ganesh Temple on the access road of his plot.
