At least four dead as strong winds lash Karachi

The death toll from falling walls and roofs ​due to strong winds blowing in the metropolis on Friday in different areas has risen to four.

According to details, at least four people including a child died and six others were injured in as strong winds battered different areas of Karachi.

A 5-year-old boy, Farman, who was injured in a wall collapse in Orangi Town, succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

In another incident, the wall of a library collapsed in North Nazimabad, that left a 60-year-old man dead.

A laborer named Faqir Hussain was killed when a wall collapsed near the Shershah area and another man was killed when a wall collapsed in Gulshan-e-Maymar area of the metropolis.

Meanwhile, three people were injured when the roof of a house near Baldia Sparko Road collapsed. Two others were injured when a motorcycle slipped due to strong winds on the Northern Bypass.

One person was injured when a power pole collapsed in Orangi Town area.

The boundary wall of the Government Karachi Boy's Secondary School in Paposh Nagar was reduced to rubble soon after winds reaching up to 45kms/hour started blowing in the city.

According to the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) prediction, Karachi is likely to expect strong winds from Friday (today) with a speed of 36 to 45km per hour (km/h), while in coastal areas, the speed of winds could escalate to 60 km/h.

A system of the westerly wave is heading towards south Punjab and under its influence, strong winds and a moderate wave of cold is expected, it said
