Karachi prisoner ‘breaks shackles’ to win ICAP scholarship

In a novel development, a Karachi Central Jail prisoner has won the Edhi scholarship worth Rs1 million to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan for his “outstanding” academic performance, Geo News reported.

Naeem Shah, who has been incarcerated for the past 11 years, secured 86.73% in intermediate examinations. He got 954 out of the total of 1,100 marks.

According to the jail management, Shah maintained a “good moral demeanour.”

The ICAP letter read, “In these joyous moments we feel delighted to inform you that based on your academic performance in HSSC results: you fulfil the eligibility criteria for the Edhi CA Talent Scholarship Program of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.

Many took to social media to share the inmate’s achievement.
