Veteran actor Humayun Saeed has been cast as Princess Diana’s love interest Dr. Hasnat Khan in the season five of hit Netflix original series ‘The Crown’ according to a report in Variety.

Saeed, who debuted as an actor in 1999 in a drama called ‘Inteha’ will be the first Pakistani actor to become part of a Netflix production.

The star has a big number of dramas and movies on his portfolio and has won numerous accolades including the LUX Style awards and ARY Film Awards. He is also the co-founder of a media production house Six Sigma Plus which makes drama serials and movies.

Social media is abuzz with the news. Many believe no other actor would be a better fit for the role and have great expectations from Saeed.

Saeed will be playing Dr. Hasnat Khan, a British-Pakistani heart surgeon widely known for his romantic relationship with Princess Diana.

In a statement to the police in 2004, Dr. Khan said that he met Diana in 1995 at the Royal Brompton hospital, where he was a heart surgeon. “I found Diana very down to earth and she made everyone feel at ease,” he said.

Dr. Khan revealed in the statement that he looked forward to a life with Diana, however, the attention from the media who watched her every move made it difficult. “Diana and I had a very good relationship with no personal problems. The only problem we did have was with the media. The media found out about us around November 1995, very soon after our relationship started. I think they had already guessed we were seeing each other, but then someone working at the hospital leaked it out. This happened when, as a joke, the Princess arranged for a big pot of flowers to be sent to me at the Royal Brompton,” said Dr. Khan.

“I was living in Neville Street in Kensington at the time and the media followed me everywhere, even to my place of work at Harefield Hospital. Diana was very protective towards me and wanted to shield me from the attention,” he added.

Princess Diana broke up with Dr. Hasnat, who she often referred to as Mr. Wonderful in 1997, after she met Dodi Fayed at a holiday with Mohammed Al Fayed and his family.

According to creator of the show Peter Morgan, Season five of ‘The Crown’ is based on the start of the early 1990’s.
