LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz on Thursday demanded an apology for tapping her phone without her knowledge.

Speaking during a press conference after a meeting of the PML-N in Lahore, Maryam said the phone tap was a violations of civil rights.

"It was my personal and private conversation with Pervez Rasheed sahib. Who had the right to tap my personal conversation?"

Maryam was referring to Tuesday's airing of a private phone conversation she had with Rasheed, sometime when the PML-N was in power, where the two can be heard discussing panelists on Geo Report Card. They were unhappy that the program's panelists were not partial to their point of view.

Media rights organization PFUJ and AEMEND on Wednesday demanded an apology from Maryam and Parvez for speaking about journalists in that manner. They also said no one has the right to dictate who can and can't be invited on air.

When asked to comment on whether she planned to apologize for using the language she did for journalists, Maryam replied she was not going to comment on the issue unless she received an apology.

She asked who gave the clip to government ministers, and why was it then given to the channel in question.

Maryam also spoke about the revelations of ECP's scrutiny committee.

She said that Prime Minister Imran Khan should resign for receiving foreign funding as revealed by the Election Commission of Pakistan in its report.

She said the foreign funding case was delayed for seven years on various pretexts.

"You received funding from the US, the Middle East, Australia, Canada, and England. Companies were formed abroad and all this was done at the behest of Imran Khan."

She went on to say that Prime Minister Imran Khan would have to be answerable to the masses for his wrongdoing.

Maryam said that action should also be taken against the PTI's employees named in the ECP's report for receiving funds in their personal accounts.

"Imran Khan solicited the money from abroad in the accounts of four of his employees but used all the money himself," the PML-N vice president said.

She alleged that the PTI was also exerting pressure on ECP to prevent its report being publically released.

Maryam said that in the light of these revelations against the premier, he must step down from his office.

"The PML-N, as well as the joint Opposition, demand Imran Khan tenders his resignation for lying, receiving illegal funding, and the concealment of funding," she said.

Lauding the ECP on releasing the report, Maryam said that it is now up to the commission to ensure that justice is served and Imran Khan is punished for his corruption.

Speaking about PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif's return to Pakistan, Maryam said that the party will decide it and that he only left the country on medical grounds.

There were "no deals" signed, Maryam added.
