The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted more rainfall in Karachi as well as other parts of Sindh on Wednesday (today) and Thursday.

The downpour that started in different parts of the city in the evening on Tuesday intensified with heavy rainfall till morning. In the last 24 hours, Karachi's Surjani Town recorded the highest rainfall, 37mm, in the city.

Other parts of Karachi also recorded heavy rainfall: Gulshan-e-Hadeed 32mm, Quaidabad 28mm, North Nazimabad 23mm, North Karachi 22mm, University Road at 22mm, PAF Faisal Base at 22mm and Jinnah terminal at 20mm.

According to the Met department, weather remained cloudy in most districts of Sindh on Wednesday and heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas of Karachi, Dadu, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, Mirpur Khas, Jacobabad, Padidan, Khairpur and Mohenjo-Daro on Thursday (tomorrow).

It also predicted widespread intermittent more rain with snowfall at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir for today and tomorrow.

Other areas of the country, including Balochistan, KP, Islamabad, Punjab, GB and Kashmir recorded widespread rain with snowfall over hills during the last 24 hours.

The Civil Aviation Authority canceled 10 national and international flight operations from Karachi today due to heavy rainfall, reported Samaa.

The authority directed the officials to address the potential emergency. “Small planes should be parked in a safe place. Birds may come when insects accumulate during possible rains, so keep fumigation equipment ready and bird shooters on the runway,” the report quoted the authority.

Heavy rainfall on Tuesday caused widespread damage in Balochistan with several areas of coastal cities, including Kech and Gwadar, inundated, while homes were damaged in Dasht Bilingor, Dalesar, Balkross, and Kashap, according to the report.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has called a meeting to monitor the situation.

Rescue work in the province by the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) along with the local administration was ongoing. Heavy machinery was clearing roads and delivering relief supplies to the affectees, the report quoted the officials.
