A day after the dissolution of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's organisation committees across the country, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Saturday announced the names of secretary general, additional secretary general and four provincial presidents of the new party structure.

Announcing the candidates, Prime Minister Imran Khan named Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar as secretary general and member of National Assembly Amir Mahmood Kayani as the addition secretary general of the new party structure, said Fawad in a tweet.

The decision to dissolve the old party structure came up after the ruling PTI faced a set back in the recently concluded first phase of the Local Government polls in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam-Fazl outperformed the PTI by bagging at least 21 seats as compared to the ruling party's 16, according to the provisional results released by the Election Commission of Pakistan. JUI-F also bagged the seat of Peshawar mayor.

Out of 35 districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, representatives of 17 districts had been elected in the first phase of the polls.

Announcing the names of provincial presidents of the party, the information minister tweeted Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak will be the president of K-P, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi of Sindh, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri of Balochistan, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood of Punjab and Minister for Industries and Production Khusru Bakhtiar of South Punjab.

The prime minister accepted the ruling party's defeat in the local body polls in a tweet saying "wrong candidate selection was a major cause" for the poor results. He vowed to personally monitor the second phase of the polls in K-P and local body elections in other parts of the country.

As per the announcement of the Election Commission of Pakistan, the second phase of the K-P's local body elections will be held on January 16, 2022.

Earlier, the prime minister directed the Punjab government to hold local body elections in the province in the first quarter of 2022, while the Balochistan government under the leadership of Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo decided to hold the polls in the province soon.

The Sindh government has recently amended the local government bill. However, the official date of polls has not been declared yet.
