Four-year-old killed in crossfire during robbery at Karachi mart
A four-year-old girl was killed during an exchange of fire between robbers and security personnel at a supermarket in Karachi's Shah Latif Town area on Wednesday, reported Aaj News.
The robbers entered the mart at 8pm and looted around Rs78,500 from the cashier, quoted the mart manager in The News report.
While they were leaving the mart, they start firing indiscriminately, with the security guard at the mart returning fire, injuring one of the robbers Pyar Ali, read the report.
During the exchange, a bullet hit four-year-old Harmain, who was passing by on a motorcycle with her brother.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but she succumbed to her injuries.
A case has been registered on the complaint of the mart's manager, with investigation into the incident underway.
It is yet to be ascertained whether the bullet which hit Harmain was fired from the security guard's weapon or the dacoits.
The injured robber is in police custody, with Rs50,000 and weapons seized from his possession, while the other suspects managed to flee.
According to the post-mortem report performed at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, the bullet hit the four-year-old in the head.
The vicitm's body has been handed over to the heirs for last rites.
