Man arrested for vandalising temple in Karachi
Police arrested a 25-year-old man on Monday for vandalising a Hindu temple in the Eidgah area in Karachi.
Dawn.com reported that City SSP Sarfaraz Nawaz said the man identified as Waleed entered the Narayan Mandir in Nayayanpura and damaged an idol using a hammer.
Apprehended by the enraged public and beaten up, he was later handed over to the police, and a first information report was registered against him.
Police recovered a hammer from the suspect.
The vandalism of the temple has caused outrage on Twitter.
A humanitarian worker Manjinder Singh Sirsa took to Twitter to condemn the act of “state backed terror.”
He called out Pakistan's government for staying silent over these cases and urged the global community to support freedom of religion of Hindus/Sikhs in Pakistan.
“It happens when culprits are allowed to walk free,” said Twitter user Fazila Baloch.
