A team of Lahore's Dolphin Police has been suspended following an inquiry into an incident in which a member of the elite squad shot a citizen over suspicion of robbery in Lahore's Township area.

Constable Faisal was arrested and booked for attempt to murder and misuse of authority charges, while Constable Khalid Muazzam and Constable Adil were also suspended.

DIG Operations Muhammad Abid Khan had directed SSP Operations Mustansar Feroze to initiate inquiry of the incident, according to spokesperson of the Operation wing.

A first information report (FIR) was registered against Constable Faisal - under sections 324 (attempt to murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code and article 155C (registration a criminal case against the delinquent police officer) of Police Order 2002 - in the Township police station on behalf of the victim's brother, Ali Muhammad.

According to the FIR, the victim had a dispute over money with another person, identified as Ali, following a party in the neighbourhood.

The dispute escalated into a brawl, with three unidentified people joining Ali in assaulting the victim.

Upon this, people who witnessed the incident alerted Dolphin Police officials who were nearby.

Quoting a police spokesperson, an Express Tribune report stated the police assumed the victim to be a suspected robber because he started running as the police arrived.
