Popstar Atif Aslam abruptly stopped a concert and walked out after male audience members were seen harassing women in the audience in Islamabad on Friday.

The concert was a part of the Taste Plus food festival being held at the Jinnah Convention Centre from December 10 to 12.

A Twitter user shared a heartwarming instagram exchange with the singer after they took it upon themselves to apologise for the badly behaved audience. Aslam asked him not to worry and that he was glad he was able to save families from "any mishaps."

According to eyewitness accounts, men at the concert slapped and punched women in the crowd while also throwing water bottles at Aslam.

Twitter users called out the organisers for managing the event poorly and advised people not to attend the next two days of the three day event.

Some went as far as to call it the worst event they had ever attended.

The harrowing event also raised questions of safety in public spheres

Some praised Aslam for handling the situation with poise and taking prompt action against the harrasers.

Many declared their love for Aslam and his prompt action.

And some took the opportunity to slam Ali Zafar, urging people to be more like Aslam instead.

This is not the first time Aslam has stopped a concert to protect women from harassment.

In 2017, the singer was performing at a concert organised by the Institute of Business Administration as part of their Model United Nations (MUNIK) when many gatecrashed the event and women were harassed and molested.

Aslam, then too, stopped the concert mid-way and asked that the young woman be “rescued” while telling the harasser to behave or he would leave.
