People took to social media to mark the fifth death anniversary of the plane crash that claimed the lives of all 47 people on board, including singer-turned-religious scholar Junaid Jamshed and his wife.

The PIA aircraft ATR-42, operating flight PK-661 from Chitral to Islamabad, crashed near Havelian in Khyber Pakhunkhwa in 2016.

Many took to Twitter to pay tribute to Jamshed.

“Indeed a big loss,” said Pakistani cricketer Yasir Hameed on Twitter.

People remember Jamshed as a man who ruled hearts and thanked him for projecting a positive image of Pakistan across the world.

Jamshed had two major periods in his life. The 52-year-old garnered unprecedented success as a singer in the 1990s as part of a musical band Vital Signs. In 2004, Jamshed left the music industry and became a devout Muslim.

As a singer, he spread love and positivity through music, and as a religious scholar Jamshed promoted peace and spiritual growth. He was admired for both.
