PDM announces to hold 'ant-inflation' march in Islamabad on March 23
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on Monday decided to hold an anti-inflation march in Islamabad on March 23.
"A huge protest will be held in the [capital] against inflation," said Maulana Fazlur Rehman while addressing a press conference after PDM meeting.
The PDM chief said that the government was formed without the mandate of the people, adding that a government which came into power through rigging, is facing failure.
He said that PDM leadership will hold meetings in all provinces to prepare for the march.
Fazl said that he will chair a meeting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while in Punjab Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif will call a meeting. Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan's (JUP) Awais Noorani will chair separate ones in Balochistan and Sindh, respectively.
Fazl said that all the leaders of the opposition parties attended today's meeting and the issue of resignations was also discussed in the meeting but the PDM will decide when and how to do it voluntarily.
He said that a seminar would also be held for which he would meet with the lawyers' community as well as the representatives of the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Pakistan Bar Council.
He said a date for the seminar would be finalised after consultations with lawyers, civil society, business and other communities so that all kinds of people could be taken into confidence over the alliance's policies.
All the meeting's participants condemned the Sialkot incident, noting that no card allows anyone to resort to violence and take the law into their hands.
"Frist see what happens on March 23 and then wait and watch," he said when asked whether the march would be held for a day or would it continue over a prolonged period.
Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, while reacting to the news conference of Fazlur Rehman, said those who are part of the system do not support JUI (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman stance of wrapping it up.
Fawad said in a statement that nobody is standing by Maulana Fazlur Rehman or listening to him.
The Information Minister said the JUI (F) chief has hinted at marching towards Islamabad on 23rd March. He said it is not the first time that such a date has been given. Maulana Fazlur Rehman has the habit of changing the date and strategy and this time too the same will happen.
Chaudhry said it is the right of the opposition parties to hold march and criticize the government. He however said 23rd March is an important day for Pakistan. He said this is not a day to divide the nation but unite it.
