As new video footage of the Sialkot incident come to light, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday announced that the government would award a civil award -- Tamgha i Shujaat -- to Malik Adnan for trying to rescue Sri Lankan manager Priyantha Diyawadana from the mob.

A new video probably shot prior to Sri Lankan factory manager Priyantha Kumara's lynching shows a colleague of the man trying to protect him from the mob. In the video, some among the mob can be heard chanting slogans and saying "he (the manager) will not escape today," while the colleague tries to shield Kumara with his body, who clings to the man's legs.

The workers eventually overpowered the colleague and dragged Kumara out on the road and tortured him with kicks, stones and iron rods, killing him on the spot. The mob then set the body on fire.

"On behalf of the nation I want to salute moral courage & bravery of Malik Adnan who tried his utmost to shelter & save Priyantha Diyawadana from the vigilante mob in Sialkot incl endangering his own life by physically trying to shield victim. We will award him Tamgha i Shujaat," the PM said.
