Sindh Bar Council Secretary Irfan Ali Mahar was shot dead in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Karachi on Wednesday when unidentified people opened fire on his car while he was going to drop his children to their school.

As per the police statement, Mahar was murdered in a targetted killing.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Sindh Bar Council "strongly condemn the brutal murder" of Mahar and announced a call of full day strike on Wednesday. It also stated: "The court work will suspend in all over Sindh."

Social media users, including lawyers, also condemned Mahar's murder. A user tweeted: "He was a true gentleman".

Another user demanded "merciless punishment for murderers."
