Social media users criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf led-government after President Dr Arif Alvi's son Awab posted on Monday that their family business had signed a deal to open a chain of dental practices in Pakistan.

In his earlier tweet, which has been deleted now, Awab wrote the investor committed $25 million initial pledge with the Alvi Dental Hospital.

In response to the news, a user retweeted Prime Minister Imran Khan's 2014 tweet to remind leaders their statements while they were in opposition. The premier had written in the tweet: "Hazrat Abu Bakr (AS) closed his clothes shop when he became Khalifa as he felt others in the business would not be able to compete."

Another user asked how social media would have responded had the opposition leaders attempted such practices for their personal business while in government.

Sharing a picture of the president's oath, a user reminded Alvi the initiative was "in violation of the oath", saying “That I will not allow my personal interest to influence my official conduct or my official decisions”. He also censured the president for "supporting his family business".

Another user asked Alvi's son why he deleted the tweet which mentioned the amount of the support to the business.

A user questioned PTI's transparency and said: "State at sale. From real estate to health services, state offices are being used to establish/promote family and personal businesses."

Dr Arif Alvi has set up the Alvi Dental Hospital at Sindhi Muslim in 1991.
