Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who's now an MP with Bharatiya Janata Party, approached Delhi police on Tuesday night saying he was receiving death threats from ISIS Kashmir, reported India Today.

The threats were sent to Gambhir's official e-mail address, according to a letter written to DC Central District by the MP's office.

Delhi's police have beefed up security outside Gambhir's residence following a request from the MP which was stated in the letter.

Quoting DCP Central Shweta Chauhan, the report said police had swung into action and an investigation had been launched in the matter which would include verification of the e-mail address from which the threating message was sent to Gambhir.

Gambhir was elected as the Lok Sabha MP from east Delhi on a BJP ticket in 2019. He played for India at international level for 15 years, before announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2018.

In 2019, ISIS announced a new chapter in India called "Wilayah of Hind" (India province).

Rita Katz a director of the SITE group, which monitors terror activities around the world, said: "Of course, the establishment of a 'province' in a region where it has nothing resembling actual governance is absurd, but it should not be written off.

ISIS issued a statement on May 10 says their militants clashed with the Indian security forces in the village of Amshipora in Kashmir's Shopian district, killing or injuring a number of them but did not specify when this incident occurred.

According to a story in Economic Times, there were reports on May 10 said that one militant was killed in clashes with security forces in Kashmir's Shopian district.

ISIS attacks in Kashmir have been occurring since 2017 but they were linked to ISIS - Khorasan.
