Indian Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Charanjit Channi and other notable Indian politicians have arrived in Pakistan through the Kartarpur Corridor to take part in the annual commemoration of the birth of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.

Indian Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, along with his ministers, is part of the first delegation to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.

The pilgrimage to the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara was suspended last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The corridor, however, reopened on Wednesday.

Earlier, Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson had said that Indian Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Om Prakash Soni, along with Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu would also visit Pakistan.

However, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was not part of the Channi-led group which went to pay their respects at the gurdwara.

Sidhu's media advisor Surinder Dalla on Wednesday night said that the Congress leader had been officially intimated that he could go on November 20 instead of November 18.

Kartarpur Corridor Project Management Unit Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Muhammad Latif, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee office bearers and Commissioner Gujranwala greeted the Indian guests who arrived at the gurdwara.

The first batch of 28 Indian Sikhs, including women, visited the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib on Wednesday by using the corridor on the first day of its reopening.
