Former national cricket team fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been sent a Rs100 million defamation notice by the state broadcaster Pakistan Television (PTV).

The notice stated that Akhter had resigned on-air from PTV sports last month which was violation of the clauses and has resulted in huge financial losses to the organisation.

The notice has been sent to the former pacer by state TV in which PTV has demanded Rs 100 million from Rawalpindi Express.

“As per clause 22, both sides shall have right to terminate his agreement by serving three months’ written notice or payment in lieu thereof. Whereas, Shoaib Akhtar resigned on air on October 26 which has resulted into huge financial losses to PTV,” reads the notice.

The notice said that Shoaib Akhtar went to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, without telling anyone and did a show with Indian cricketers, which caused damage to state TV.

Last month, Shoaib Akhtar walked out of a state-run TV programme and tendered his resignation after being ‘insulted’ on-air by host Nauman Niaz – who is heading PTV Sports Department.

On October 28, PTV administration formed a committee to investigate the argument between Dr Nauman Niaz and Shoaib Akhtar which happened during the TV show Game On Hai, after the match between Pakistan and New Zealand in the ICC T20 World Cup concluded October 26.

PTV had decided to keep the duo off-air until the inquiry into their argument on a live TV show is concluded.
