PDM leadership to meet today to formulate strategy against price hike of petrol
Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) President Maulana Fazl ur Rehman has convened an emergency meeting of the opposition parties alliance on Saturday (today) to discuss petrol price hike, inflation and other national issues, reported Aaj News.
The leadership of the opposition parties will participate in the meeting through video link, while Rehman will head the meet convened at 3:30pm.
According to the report, the participants would consider formulating a joint strategy to protest against price hike in petroleum products.
On Thursday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led federal government increased price of petrol by Rs8.03 per litre, high speed dieserl Rs8.14 per litre.
During the span of less than two months, this is fourth time the government has increased prices of petroleum products. During this period, the price of petrol has been jacked up by Rs27.52 per litre and HSD Rs27.59 per litre.
In the meeting the opposition parties members will also consider a strategy related to a joint session of the Parliament scheduled to be held on November 10.
The government has planned to pass 18 bills in the joint session of the Parliament, including ones on the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and giving the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis bills.
The PDM meeting was expected to be attended by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders, including Maryam Nawaz and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. Other participants of the meeting include Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Balochistan National Party-Mengal chief Akhtar Mengal, Aftab Sherpao, Maulana Owais Noorani and other leaders of the PDM.
