Noor murder case: Court orders production of more witnesses for Nov 3 testimony
An Islamabad additional and session court ordered the production of more witnesses for testimony on November 3 in Noor Mukadam's murder case.
A written order of the hearing held on October 27 issued by Session Judge Atta Rabbani stated the defence lawyers were being provided copies of the statements of the accused and other documents.
".. all the learned defence council and learned council for the complainant are made sit in the court and all the copies of the statements of the accused with entire satisfaction of learned defence council have also been delivered and no further objection has been raised whatsoever," read the written order.
It further categorized the case under Gender Based Violence, saying the Islamabad High Court has issued the directives to complete the trial in two months, therefore the attendance of the accused was ensured through a video link.
The order stated: "There is no bar to proceed with the trial proceedings in attendance of the accused through video link. Therefore, personal attendance of the accused Zahir Zakir, Zakir Jaffer, Muhammad Iftikhar and Muhammad Jan in the court is exempted and they have been taken on video link."
It is pertinent to mention the police failed to produce accused in the court in person as roads in the city were blocked due to Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan's long march towards Islamabad.
During the hearing of the case conducted on Wednesday, the statements of prosecution witnesses constable Abid Latif, Assistant Sub Inspector Basharat Rehman and police constable Aqsa Rani have been recorded.
"Remaining prosecution witnesses be summoned and the prosecution is directed to produce the remaining witnesses [on the next hearing]," read the written order.
It further stated the date of next hearing, Nov 3, has been fixed with the consent of learned defence counsel as per their availability.
Meanwhile, Zakir Jaffer, father of prime accused Zahir, hired Advocate Basharat Khan to plead his case before the court.
Noor, daughter of a former ambassador, was beheaded in the Jaffer's home in Islamabad on July 20.
The police arrested Zahir from the crime scene after Noor's father Shaukat Mukadam filed a First Information Report (FIR) about the disappearance of his daughter .
Zahir's parents, Zakir and Asmat Adamjee, were arrested in the case along with their three domestic staff workers and six employees of Therapy Works, a counselling and psychotherapy centre, including its Chief Executive Officer Tahir Zahoor Ahmed.
Later, the district and session court granted bail to the employees of the centre and its chief, while the Supreme Court has also granted bail to Zahir's mother.
The court indicted all 12 accused, including the prime suspect Zahir, for Noor's murder, while the trial of the case was ongoing in the Judge Rabbani's session court.
