Prime Minister Imran Khan has assured the Pakistan Tehreek i Insaf's parliamentary committee on Thursday that the matter of the appointment of the new DG ISI has been resolved and that he will interview all candidates before making a decision.

He also said the matter has been "amicably settled", as reported by Dawn, between him and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and that the government would complete its five-year term.

Pakistan has been gripped in speculations since the ISPR announced the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum as the new DG ISI, a notification which is meant to come from the Prime Minister's Office.

It appears Khan wanted Lt Gen Faiz Hameed to continue in the role as the DG ISI, as said by the party's chief whip in the National Assembly, Amir Dogar earlier this week.

The matter, however, has been resolved and a notification is expected in the next few days according to information minister Fawad Chaudhry in his press briefing to the media after Thursday's parliamentary committee meet.

Chaudhry however denied the prime minister would interview the candidates, saying that he will meet with them instead.

No such interviews have taken place in the past.

"Nervous ministers"

Dawn also reported that the people headed to the parliamentary committee meeting on Thursday "seemed to be nervous" but "were looking satisfied and relieved when they were leaving the hall."

Dawn quoted a source as saying that Khan assured party leaders their government enjoyed good relations with the military leadership.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Fawad Chaudhry, Leader of the House in the Senate Dr Shahzad Waseem, Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri, Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari, Special Assistant to the PM on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill and Senator Faisal Javed attended the meeting.
