The opposition alliance of Pakistan Democratic Movement on Monday postponed the anti-government discussions to another day as a mark of respect for the deaths of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, ex AJK prime minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat and PML-N leader Pervaiz Malik.

The alliance will meet on October 18 next.

The meeting was attended by head of the PDM Fazlur Rehman in person while Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif joined by video link. Although they defered this meeting to Oct 18, they planned to go ahead with the rally planned in Faisalabad on Oct 16.

The meeting was meant to discuss the political instability in the country, the economic crisis and the electoral reforms the PTI wants to push through. It also wanted to discuss the extension granted to the NAB chairman Javed Iqbal. They were also going to discuss the anti-government agenda which may have included a long march to Islamabad as well as public meetings nationwide.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Maulana Rehman callled the NAB Ordinance a "individual specific law" adding the government was passing unnecessary laws as a way to reward individuals.

He also asked how this government, which itself came through a rigged election, could talk about electoral reforms.

He called the government an “illegitimate” one which had failed to deliver anything.

When asked if the PDM's weakness had worked in favor of the PTI government, Rehman said there were other reasons the government was in power.

He said “You know very well why the government is getting an extension. This government is not only illegitimate but also incomplete and is unable to deliver,” according to Tuesday's report in Geo.

"Had the opposition not come out on the roads, the incompetence of the PTI government would not have been exposed,” he said.
