ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday overruled the objections raised by the registrar's office to a miscellaneous petition filed by PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz seeking annulment of the verdict in the Avenfield Apartment reference.

A two-member IHC bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard Maryam and her husband Captain (rtd) Mohammad Safdar's appeals against their conviction and an application filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) seeking hearing of their appeals on a daily basis.

Maryam’s counsel, Irfan Qadir, appeared before the bench and rejected the impression that the PML-N leader was against the armed forces.

He said that a "misunderstanding" was being spread since yesterday.

Maryam's counsel said that the anti-graft watchdog's application for hearing the appeals on a daily basis was non-maintainable and urged the court to dismiss it.

Justice Amir Farooq inquired whether any application has been filed or any objections have been raised from the Registrar's Office. Irfan Qadir Advocate said that following the petition, objections were raised but a misunderstanding was spread.

"I want to clarify that our agencies are the best agencies in the world, our judges are respectable, our army forces. We are the best forces in the world, we are not against any institution," he said.

The court issued notice on the NAB's request for daily hearing and removed the objections of the Registrar's Office on the miscellaneous application of Maryam Nawaz.

Maryam had filed a separate petition in the high court against the verdict given by an accountability court in the Avenfiled Apartments case.

Maryam, on Tuesday, through her counsel urged the high court to declare the accountability court's decision in the Avenfield Apartments case void over "serious violations".
