After damaging India's summer-sown crops, Cyclone Gulab, which originated in the Bay of Bengal, is headed to Sindh where the provincial government is bracing for heavy rains Thursday onward.

Sindh's Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has given provincial ministers the charge of various districts in Karachi as the cyclone is expected to trigger heavy rainfall.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department's Early Warning Centre issued a release saying low air pressure in the northern Arabian Sea is likely to lead to torrential downpours in Sindh and the coastal areas of Makran.

The remaining part of the cyclonic storm is located at the moment in central India in the form of low air pressure which is moving towards Sindh.

The rain is expected to last till October 2.

There are fears the rain will cause urban flooding in Karachi as well as Thatta, Hyderabad and Dadu. The department also said it may impact Lasbela, Sonmiani, Ormara, Pasni, Gwadar, Turbat and Jiwani districts.

The PMD further predicts that sea levels may rise from September 30 to October and has directed fishermen not to go into the sea.

People have turned to social media to share images of the weather from various parts of Karachi.

Users in Pakistan often rely on humor to lighten the mood and Thursday was no exception.

People are also using the opportunity to share images of weather systems and apps that can help track the status of the storm.

These updates on social media allow people with access to Twitter to plan their day and transportation better.

Journalist Omar Quraishi has been using his account to update the cyclone status.
