In a wide ranging interview with Geo News, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has said the issue of Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan needs to be taken up by Pakistan, not Afghanistan.

In the interview which aired Saturday night, Mujahid was responding to a question from host Saleem Safi about whether Taliban will talk to TTP not to engage in conflict with Pakistan.

"The issue of the TTP is one that Pakistan will have to deal with, not Afghanistan. It is up to Pakistan, and Pakistani Ulema and religious figures, not the Taliban, to decide on the legitimacy or illegitimacy of their war and to formulate a strategy in response," Mujahid said.

This seemed to contradict earlier statements made by Pakistani lawmakers who have said the Afghan Taliban had assured Islamabad the TTP will not be allowed to use Afghan soil for attacks against Pakistan.

Aaj reported on August 23 interior minister Sheikh Rashid as saying: "The related authorities there have been told that those who have done terrorism in Pakistan [are controlled]," said the interior minister before adding that the Taliban had reasserted their land will not be used for terrorism against Pakistan.

A few days prior to Rashid, the same was echoed by Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Chaudhri.

On when people can expect a government in Afghanistan, Mujahid said they were hard at work on ensuring the government is inclusive and hoped a statement on this issue will be made in a few days.

He said the Taliban wants to include new faces also in the government.

"We wish to begin a new chapter and include people who do not only enjoy popular support, but are deserving of being the people's representatives," he said adding that no one will be sidelined either.
