Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi received telephone calls from their counterparts to discuss situation in Afghanistan.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called FM Qureshi on Wednesday and exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

During the call, Qureshi underlined that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was of critical importance for Pakistan and the region.

Qureshi said in the given situation, it was extremely important to ensure safety and security as well as protection of rights of the Afghan people.

He apprised Yi of Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate the evacuation of personnel and staff of diplomatic missions, international organizations, media and others from Afghanistan.

Earlier, the prime minister, in a telephonic conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, said that as Pakistan was reaching out to all Afghan leaders, the international community must also stay engaged, particularly to support the people of Afghanistan economically.

The two leaders exchanged views on the rapidly evolving situation in Kabul, while the premier underscored the immense importance of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan for Pakistan and the region.

The Prime Minister underlined that an inclusive political settlement was the best way forward.

Meanwhile, the prime minister, who received a telephone call from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, underscored the paramount importance of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan for Pakistan.

He also stressed that ensuring safety, security and respect for rights of all Afghans was critically important.

The two Prime Ministers agreed to remain in contact with respect to the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, in the bilateral context, the prime minister highlighted the extensive measures taken by Pakistan to contain the Covid, noted that the relevant data had been shared with the British side, and called for removal of Pakistan from the Red List.

The prime minister also received a phone call from his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen to discuss situation in Afghanistan.

In a statement issued by the Danish premier on Wednesday, Frederiksen expressed gratitude to the government of Pakistan for assistance in facilitating the transit of DK citizens and personnel from Kabul.
